Jefferson Harald: 27 SEP 1979
He [William George Gilroy Sr.] grew to manhood in Jefferson and attended the local high school. He entered the Army in 1917 during WWI and served in France. In 1919 he was united in marriage with Audrey Smith. The family lived in Jefferson where Mr. Gilroy was a truck driver for an auto transport carrier company. He was employed by the city of Jefferson on the police force for many years. Later he worked for the State of Iowa and then the American Athletic Company. He was a member of the Central Christian Church, belonged to Jefferson Barracks # 1838 of World War I Veterans and Floyd Brown Post # 11 of the American Legion. He was a member and past master of Morning Star Lodge # 159 A.F. & A.M. and belonged to Green Lodge # 315 of I.O.O.F. in Jefferson.
